Manifesto of the UI →
I’ve been thinking more and more lately about the state of user interface and it’s evolution path — it’s something that I can’t get out of my mind. Over the past few years (we’re talking less than 5), we’ve seen user interfaces across the digital world morph from a static experience into highly dynamic interactive experiences. Web sites like Facebook and MySpace have proven that interactivity and...

OSX & Windows Simultaneous Release →
Man it’s been a long time since we had some decent Spore news! Luckily today during the much-anticipated MacWorld expo in San Francisco, EA announced that they’ll be releasing Spore on OS X and Windows simultaneously. This is a huge win for me (an avid Mac user) and a smart move by EA. It’s also a great sign that they’re starting to talk about Spore again — I’m anticipating the EA hype machine...

LOST
I’ve been re-watching LOST now in preparation for the upcoming season and I’m reminded about how much this show just fucking rocks.  The scene I just left off on was in Season 2, when they get inside the hatch and get told about the button.  It’s like at every point in the show you just want to sit there and scream HOLD UP EVERYONE! Tell me what the fuck is going on, now!...

Refining your estimation skills →
One of the most important traits that separates junior level developers from senior level developers is the ability to accurately estimate projects. Every junior level developer I’ve ever met thinks they know how to accurately estimate a project, but few can estimate with any real accuracy. It’s taken me three years to move from the mindset that I know exactly how long X takes to the mindset that...

Getting There
When I was 16 I was in the best rock band of my life. We sounded terrible. But it was a fucking amazing experience. We played nothing but small, smokey bars and shitty little clubs. I always dreamed of “getting there” and doing the big shows. But now it’s time that I realize, those little clubs were “getting there” and the big shows were for people I would hate to be...
