Safari is 95% awesome, 5% shit

With the new release of 3.1 I’m falling in love/hate with safari again.  In a general sense, it rocks — hardcore.  Super fast, super clean, and the new Web Inspector UI is just awesome.

But there’s also a lot of shit left in it. Stuff that should have been fixed years ago.  If these were fixed, I’d have a love/love relationship with Safari.

  1. I just want a keyboard shortcut to switch tabs that works. All of the time. Not just half the time.
  2. Stop crashing. No, fore reals — crashing browsers leads to mental instability.
  3. I want links with target=”_blank” to open in the same window, new tab. That includes window.open calls too. I don’t want to install an extension, just fix this.
That’s it! — no really. I’m not asking for a lot, I just want some simple functionality that Firefox has given me for years.  Sure, there’s some wrinkles with the web inspector, but I expect those will iron themselves out.  But right now it’s these small problems that makes me want to throw my computer at the wall — and forces me to use a browser that’s orders of magnitude slower.

Almost forgot to mention — I’m heading out to SXSWi this year for the first time. I’m totally stoked, regardless of how “uncool” it’s become to go. I’ll be the short kid with way too much hair on my…

“When asked at the press conference if she could name a particular instance in her past that equips her to deal with a national security crisis, Clinton balked, saying, “Well, I was involved in a lot of the decisions that were made. Again, you are looking at it from the wrong perspective,” Clinton said. “You know, no one who hasn’t been president has done that, so that’s not the right question. The question is, what have you done over the course of that lifetime to equip you for that moment?” —Clinton Says She and McCain Offer Experience, Obama Offers Speeches
